Columbia River Gorge hikes

Trails in the Gorge corridor, east of Portland.

The Gorge is the most walked landscape in Oregon and the most changed. The 2017 Eagle Creek Fire burned through much of the corridor, and the recovery has been uneven: some trails reopened within a year, some took five, and a few remain closed or rerouted. Any map of this area — this one included — can be confidently out of date about a specific trail.

So treat the list below as where to start looking, and check the current closure notices before you drive out. The Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail, which appears here, is the one route in the corridor that is paved and largely accessible.

Trailhead parking in the Gorge is the other planning problem, and a severe one on any summer weekend. Each page shows the parking areas mapped within 1.5 km of the route, drawn from OpenStreetMap rather than from a guess.
